In response, Kesha’s legal team said in court documents filed Saturday that Korneich erred in basing her decision on the finding that Kesha could record without Gottwald’s interference.
“Although (the court) recognized that ‘slavery was done away with a long time ago’ and that ‘(y)ou can’t force someone to work … in a situation in which they don’t want to work,’ the Court’s ruling requiring Kesha to work for Gottwald’s companies, purportedly without his involvement, does just that,” he alleged.
The court also erred in concluding there had been no showing of irreparable harm to Kesha, her lawyers claim. In support of her motion for a preliminary injunction, Kesha submitted affidavits from people in the music industry attesting to her claim “that a young pop star’s fame will fade quickly, and permanently, due to a loss of momentum.”
A lawyer for Gottwald declined to comment Tuesday on the latest filings.
The legal saga began in 2014, when Kesha sued Gottwald and his recording companies in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging sexual assault and battery, harassment, violation of California’s unfair business laws and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
The claims are based on her allegations that Gottwald sexually, physically, and emotionally abused her during their 10-year relationship, starting when she was 18. Her lawsuit alleges that he once drugged and raped her, contributing to an eating disorder that led to a stint in rehab.
Gottwald had denied any claims of abuse or rape. After Korneich’s February ruling he said on Twitter that he did not rape Kesha and never had sex with her. He cited court proceedings in 2011 in which Kesha testified that the date rape never took place.
Gottwald brought the dispute cross-country by filing a lawsuit in New York Superior Court alleging defamation and breach of contract, claiming New York was the appropriate venue for claims related to their contracts. The California court stayed Kesha’s lawsuit pending resolution of the actions in New York, prompting Kesha to file counterclaims alleging sexual harassment, gender-based violation and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Kesha is seeking undisclosed monetary damages and to be let out of her contracts.
MANILA – The Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) denied on Tuesday that its investigation into what is described as the biggest money laundering scam in Asia’s banking history was slow.

In a press conference held on Tuesday, AMLC Secretariat executive director Julia Bacay-Abad said AMLC acted swiftly when it got wind of the missing $81 million from the central bank of Bangladesh through a phone call from the governor of the central bank of Bangladesh himself.
Abad noted that the bank that received the alleged stolen funds, the RCBC Jupiter branch, could have acted on its own when it noticed suspicious activity in several accounts.
“There’s no way for us to know because in the first place, the bank on its own could have determined that something was wrong with the transactions and they could have submitted [a report] on their own,” Abad said.
“It probably so happened that their submission was preceded by my call, but probably it’s possible that even without my call, they could have also submitted reports because I understand that there was already an investigation being conducted by the bank when all these things happened,” she added.
Abad said RCBC filed a suspicious transaction report on February 12, one day after Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) governor Amando Tetangco Jr., who is also AMLC chairman, received a call from the Bangladesh central bank governor.
She said RCBC’s submission was still within the prescribed 10-day requirement, as the funds were deposited to the RCBC accounts on February 5.
After receiving the alert from Bangladesh, Abad said AMLC immediately launched an investigation on February 12.
“We determined whether these transactions actually occurred based on our database, and indeed we are able to confirm from the database that these remittances happened. From there, we required the concerned bank to submit account opening forms pertaining to the account the day after we discovered. So between February 12 and 13, we gathered all pertinent documents pertaining to the accounts,” she said.
Abad said that by February 15, AMLC was able to determine that the identification cards submitted by the RCBC account holders were fake.
“Don’t tell us na mabagal ‘yung ginawa naming investigation. By February 16, we already had all these authenticated documents [for a freeze order] from the Bangladesh Bank,” she said.
Abad explained that the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) signed the petition for the freeze order on February 26, but it was filed before the Court of Appeals on Monday, February 29.
The freeze order on the bank accounts linked to the scam was issued on March 1. By then, the funds had already been withdrawn and remitted to casino operators.

On March 14, AMLC filed charges against RCBC Jupiter branch bank manager Maia Santos-Deguito and others involved in the scheme.
‘EXPEDITE PROCESS’
Abad believes that giving AMLC the power to issue a cease and desist order on its covered institutions will prevent this from happening again, but she is leaving it up to the lawmakers to decide.
“That will expedite process, of course, but as to the propriety of giving the AMLC the power to freeze or to issue cease and desist, we’ll leave it to the discretion of the lawmakers,” she said.
Senator TG Guingona, the chair of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee investigating the scam, also wants to give AMLC the power to immediately freeze an account, even without an order from the courts.
Abad explained that under the functions of AMLC, it can only secure a freeze order from the court.
Also among its functions are:
– the filing of a criminal complaint for the prosecution of money launderers;
– imposing administrative sanctions on those who violate the law; – require and receive covered and suspicious transaction reports from covered institutions;
– investigate suspicious transactions; and,
– institute civil forfeiture and all other remedial proceedings through the OSG.
Abad said that in 2015, AMLC received over 36 million covered transaction reports as well as 146,308 suspicious transaction reports.
“We are receiving millions of transaction reports and the AMLC cannot look into all those transactions,” she said.
WHAT IS COVERED BY AMLC?
Abad explained that there are two types of transactions that should be reported to the AMLC–covered transactions and suspicious transactions.
A covered transaction is any transaction in cash or other equivalent monetary instrument involving a total amount in excess of P500,000 within one banking day.
“For example, I obtained a loan from the GSIS, if the proceeds of the loan are deposited to my bank account, let’s say in the amount of P650,000, definitely that loan proceeds will be reported to the AMLC as a covered transaction,” said Abad.
Suspicious transactions, on the other hand, are those that have no underlying legal, trade obligation, purpose or economic justification.
These transactions also include instances wherein the client is not properly identified; amount involved is not commensurate to the business or financial capacity of client; and, the transaction is in any way related to an unlawful activity or any money laundering offense that is about to be, is being or has been committed.
Among the institutions covered by the AMLC are banks, quasi-banks, money changers, remittance companies, insurance companies, company service providers, lawyers, accountants, and dealers of precious stones and metals.
Abad said AMLC will propose to add casinos in the coverage of money laundering laws.
“What we will propose to Congress is to amend the law, primarily to include the casino sector in the coverage of the law. Second, strengthen the supervisory authority of the BSP over the remittance companies. Also, include the real estate brokers and agents in the coverage of the law, kasi ito ‘yung mga sector that is also vulnerable to money laundering,” she said.
The rules of jailbreak are simple; you have 36 hours to travel as far from your university as you can, without spending any of your own money. It’s not an excuse for a holiday, though – it’s all for charity.
With thoughtful preparation, a little luck and some lateral thinking, you can make the most of those 36 hours and your sponsorship. We asked students who’ve done it for their best pieces of advice.
In 36 hours, you might be in Singapore’s business district or on an Australian beach, so pack a variety of clothes. It’s more likely that you’ll end up somewhere in Europe so a good coat is a priority over board shorts. For teams, smaller is better – it’s easier for pairs to bag free rides than groups. And don’t forget your passport.
Any planning will be probably be forgotten immediately, but it’s crucial to do homework about jailbreak itself. Know about your charity, why you chose it, and what jailbreak is all about. It will make you seem more professional and convincing – and you’re going to have to repeat the spiel a lot.
People will be more impressed by students who know what they’re doing than kids who are chancing their arm. It’s also helpful to keep any official jailbreak paperwork on you in case people need extra convincing.
If you watch any videos of jailbreaks, you’ll realise how disorientating the start can be. Dressing up is a good way both to stand out and start conversations with passers-by. However, there’s a balance – your Pikachu costume might seem funny at first, but it might be less charming 18 hours later by the side of a motorway.
A good compromise is an eye-catching accessory. Jeremy Wong, a philosophy student at University College London, made customisable signs for his 2013 jailbreak with a whiteboard where he could write different messages. Jailbreak is all about self-advertising, and a witty message on a whiteboard could catch you a ride or two.
For most students, hitchhiking becomes a staple for those 36 hours. Staying safe is your priority with hitchhiking so if it feels dodgy, don’t jump in – no matter how badly you feel you need to get to the next county along. It’s helpful to seem friendly and approachable but it’s more important to trust your instincts.
In 2013, Olivia Wilkinson’s team from Oxford University hitchhiked all the way to Edinburgh and back in the allotted time. Her main tip is to go to places where people have already stopped like petrol stations. You’re much more likely to be able to approach people there than somewhere like a lay-by.
You also shouldn’t have any pre-conceived ideas about who will take you. She found rides through a family – but also a stag do. A final warning about hitchhiking? Be prepared for small talk, which Wilkinson says can become exhausting after hours of travel.
Most jailbreak winners have been spurred on to victory thanks to jet fuel. In 2010, one team from Durham University guessed Richard Branson’s email and sent him a message. Their reply from Branson’s PA read: “Richard would like to know if Sydney is far enough,” and the rest is jailbreak history.
Guessing billionaires’ emails isn’t the only route to flyaway success. Standby flights – where there are free seats on flights that are about to take off – are an option. Sometimes, luck will be on your side. During her jailbreak in 2014, Harriet Trayling, a philosophy and sociology student at the University of Leeds, emailed Leeds Bradford Airport with information about her charity. The airport was launching a new route to Copenhagen that day and offered them free flights. A runway photo-shoot and interview with BBC Radio Yorkshire followed.
Trayling’s advice is to “pre-warn” airports and travel companies: “nine times out of 10 someone will reply and it’s for a very good cause.” Don’t underestimate the kindness of strangers – and the eagerness of marketing teams.
Checking in with your university’s charity organisation is crucial for your own safety. Some universities, like Roehampton, even have live jailbreak maps where you can track your own and others’ progress. There are other advantages besides your own safety. By tweeting and Instagramming along, you raise your profile on social media. Who knows who’ll be reading your tweets about being stuck at Dover?
You probably won’t maintain a delightful mood for 36 hours but it’s important to stay positive, especially at the beginning. Enthusiasm might be your golden ticket to victory. That’s what happened to two students from Cambridge University who phoned a Guardian editor from the front desk – and bagged flights to San Diego in 2010.
Gemma Bowes, the Guardian travel editor, said it was “the excitement in her voice” that convinced her to go down to meet the team. Their victory proves it’s worth keeping up appearances – even if you feel like you’re going nowhere.

Airport: About 8 a.m. local time, two explosions struck the departure lounge of Brussels Airport in Zaventem.
One was a suicide bombing, according to Belgian prosecutor Frederic Van Leeuw.
The other remains under investigation.
One blast took place outside the security checkpoints for ticketed passengers and near the airline check-in counters, according to an airline official briefed on the situation.
“It’s horrible,” baggage handler Alphonse Lyoura told CNN affiliate BFM, recalling a man who had lost both legs and other grisly scenes. “Belgium doesn’t deserve this.”
A bystander’s video captured the horror of the aftermath, with people motionless on the floor and dust hanging in the air, obscuring visibility.
Metro Station: About an hour after the airport explosions, another blast rocked the Maelbeek metro station toward the end of rush hour. The station is in the heart of the city, where European Union institutions are based, a symbolic target for terrorists. NATO is also headquartered in Brussels.
Strong winds rushed through the train car of passenger Sander Verniers as his train headed toward the station where the explosion occurred.
The train stopped in the middle of the tunnel, and then Belgian troops met the passengers as they disembarked from the train and walked along the tracks.
“We all had to get out,” Verniers told CNN. “There was a lot of smoke.”
Another bystander’s video depicted passengers stepping down from the cars in a dark tunnel, with a child crying.
Suspects: Belgian authorities released an image of three suspects in Tuesday’s Brussels Airport attack.
Two of them carried out suicide attacks, and a third one is believed to have been a guide to ensure the other two would carry out the attacks, according to Van Leeuw and experts.
That third individual, dressed in a light jacket and hat, is being sought, the prosecutor said.
Information on suspects in the metro station attack wasn’t immediately available.
Raids: Police raids connected to Tuesday’s attacks were happening in the Brussels region, with authorities looking for people suspected of being linked to the deadly explosions, Belgian broadcaster RTBF reported, citing judicial sources.
Investigators were searching residences in connection with the investigation, but they weren’t saying where, Van Leeuw said.
At least one police helicopter with a sniper hovered over the Schaarbeek neighborhood as darkness fell Tuesday. The chopper apparently provided cover for raids unfolding on the ground, analysts said.
“During a house search in Schaarbeek, investigators found a nail bomb, chemical products, and an ISIS flag,” the federal prosecutor said in a statement.
Airport discovery: Belgian media reported a Kalashnikov assault rifle was found in the departure hall of the Zaventem airport.
Suitcase bomb? Investigators are looking at whether one of the airport explosions may have been caused by a bomb inside a suitcase, while the other was a suicide bombing, according to a U.S. official briefed on early evidence from the investigation.
This investigation is only just beginning and there’s much that’s not yet known, the source added.
Working theory about airport: Investigators suspect the attack was one of opportunity, targeting a large group of people in an area near airline ticket counters, two officials say.
There’s no indication so far the attackers tried to go past the security screening checkpoint, but investigators will have to do more investigation, including reviewing surveillance footage, to be sure, the officials say.
Authorities have yet to provide details on what they think the attackers’ strategy was at the train station.
“The Belgians have been sitting on a ticking time bomb,” one U.S. counterterrorism official said.
U.S. intelligence officials say they weren’t surprised about an attack in Brussels because there have been general concerns about terror threats, particularly in the wake of recent raids and the arrest of key Paris attack suspect Saleh Abdeslam last week.
Belgium has been a top concern for counterterrorism officials for years because of the large number of Belgian foreign fighters who traveled to join ISIS and other terror groups in Syria and Iraq. Many have been returning.
United States: “This is yet another reminder that the world must unite,” President Barack Obama said from Cuba, where he’s on a historic visit. “We must be together regardless of nationality or race or faith in fighting against the scourge of terrorism.”
France Security: France is deploying an additional 1,600 police officers around the country, French Interior Minister Bernard Cazenueve said Tuesday.
U.S. Security: At Washington’s Union Station, police were pulling random passengers, as they were boarding, to go through luggage security checks. Bomb-sniffing dogs were also out on the tracks doing sweeps.
Authorities in other U.S. cities, including New York and Chicago, are taking special precautions, like increased K9 sweeps of subways and additional police patrols.
The FBI is also boosting checks on the whereabouts of suspected extremists who are already being monitored and checking for any intelligence indicating possible threats in the United States, officials say.
Additionally, U.S. national security officials are on guard for possible copycat attacks, though there is no specific indication of any plots in the United States tied to the Brussels attacks, officials said.
Britain Security: British police have increased their presence at certain locations, including transport hubs like London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports, according to Scotland Yard.
NATO Security: The alliance is raising its level of alert, it said in a statement.

While most people affiliate heatstroke deaths of children in vehicles with heat waves in the summer, the dangers still exist during early spring.
There have already been two child fatalities in the United States this year due to people leaving a child in a car unattended, according to San Jose State University.
Of these two fatalities, one occurred when the temperature outside was 84 F, and the other occurred when the temperature outside was 52 F.
According to San Jose State University, the average of heatstroke deaths of children in vehicles totals 1 during both March and April and 4 during May in the U.S.
Heat-related fatalities in cars are possible so early in the year is due to the stronger sunlight in the spring when compared to winter. Because of the stronger sunlight in the spring months, it does not have to be hot outside for the temperature inside of a car to reach life-threatening levels.
In some cases, the temperature inside of a car can spike by nearly 20 degrees in just 10 minutes.
While some people think that cracking the windows may help, it does not prevent the temperature inside of a car from soaring to dangerous levels.
Children and pets are most likely to fall victim to a hot, unattended car since neither have the same ability to cool off that an adult does.

“Children heat up three to four times faster than adults,” said Jan Null, CCM at San Francisco University.
“In the worst case scenario, if a child is small and on the sunny side of the car, death can occur in 15 minutes or under,” Null added.
Not only is it dangerous to leave a child unattended in a vehicle, but in some states, it is also illegal.
States with laws against leaving a child unattended in a vehicle include California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.
Additionally, some states have laws on the books making it legal to break into a locked vehicle to rescue a pet or child if an individual believes that the person or pet inside is in danger.
Florida was the most recent state to pass such a law. Under this new law, which was passed on March 8, 2016, individuals cannot be sued if they break into a car given that they have checked to see if the car is locked and have called 911 before breaking in.
Before leaving the car, parents and pet owners should always double check the backseat to make sure that they don’t leave a child or pet behind by accident.
Child safety checklist:
1. If you see a child unattended in a vehicle, immediately call 911.
2. Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle.
3. If you are missing a child, first check the pool and your vehicle.
4. Give yourself a visual reminder that your child is the backseat. Put the child’s teddy bear on the front seat, put your cell phone, purse or briefcase in the backseat; that way you are forced to remember.
5. Place something important, such as a phone or wallet, in the backseat as a reminder to check.

You can call it snotty. You can call it vapid. You can call it nipped, tucked, smoothed and straightened beyond recognition. But whatever you do, don’t call Beverly Hills a laggard when it comes to water conservation — at least in the presence of Mayor Julian Gold. He’s already well-aware. And he’s working on it.
Over the past year, Gold and city leaders have strived to reverse this well-heeled Los Angeles enclave’s status, per the California Water Board, as one of the state’s most egregious users of residential water. In fact, Beverly Hills — where 50 to 60 of water used is to keep XL-sized lawns obscenely hydrated — is home to two of California’s top 10 known residential water users as determined by the Center for Investigative Reporting using data furnished by the Los Angeles Department of Power and Water. (Neighboring Bel Air dominates the list).
Tasked with reducing his city’s water consumption by 36 percent — later eased to 32 percent — over the past year as California struggled with a historic four-year drought, Gold and officials got busy — busy educating, fining and writing nasty-grams to those defying water usage restrictions.
He told CBS News last April: “I’m going to go knock on their door and tell them to stop. I think it’s going to come down to neighbors policing neighbors.”
While it’s doubtful that Gold actually went knocking on doors, the city’s aggressive recent efforts to cut back have paid off. But it didn’t happen overnight.
This past October, Beverly Hills hit a new low when it was fined $61,000 for failing to meet water conservation goals for four months straight — the only city in California not located in the desert to be penalized. Other communities across Los Angeles County met their conservation goals, some with flying colors. But not Beverly Hills. Beverly Hills failed, falling short of its conservation target by nearly 12 percentage points, according to the New York Times.
“I’m not sure why that is,” noted Cris Carrigan, the California Water Board’s chief of enforcement. “There are other affluent communities in the state where conservation is cool. In Beverly Hills, for whatever reason, people are not motivated.”
In addition to doling out a hefty fine, Carrigan noted that the water-wasting residents of Beverly Hills “should be ashamed.”
Heads hung low, “very concerned” city officials vowed to make dramatic improvements — and tout de suite.
Following last year’s very public — and very costly — scolding, Beverly Hills finally seems to be conserving. As reported by the Los Angeles Times, the city cut its water usage by 26 percent in January — the highest in eight months of reporting and almost double the conservation rate in December. A 26 percent reduction still falls a few points shy of the city’s established standard, and Beverly Hills certainly isn’t out of the woods yet as far as penalties go. But hey, it’s a marked improvement.
Laying down the law
So what tactic ultimately worked in a city seemingly populated by water conservation scofflaws? Beverly Hills officials believe a round of stern letters that went out in November to the 86 highest single-family residential water users might have done the trick. Each letter specifically addressed a two-month billing cycle, most, but not all, ranging from June through August.
“These letters were the latest in our toolbox to encourage the top water users to be more conservation minded,” Gold explained to the Times.
So here we are, thanks to a request under the California Public Records Act filed by the Times, with the names — and the detailed soggy indiscretions — of just a few of the biggest water guzzlers in Beverly Hills.
Most of the names aren’t entirely shocking. There’s a legendary media mogul (David Geffen), a hotshot Hollywood director (Brett Ratner), a prominent real estate developer (Geoff Palmer) and an Emmy-winning television producer (Max Mutchnick of “Will & Grace” fame).
And then there’s Amy Poehler.
Not that Poehler isn’t immune to flagrant acts of waste, but the “Saturday Night Live” alumna’s name on the list is surprising. You certainly wouldn’t expect Leslie Knope of all people to use 170,000 gallons of water between May 14 and July 14 — that’s $2,200 worth of water over a two-month billing cycling.
The average amount of water used by Poehler on a daily basis is also, as Quartz points out, just a wee bit higher than that of the average American family per Environmental Protection Agency estimates: roughly 2,786 gallons versus 400 gallons per day.
And here’s the thing: it’s unclear why exactly Poehler is guzzling such an egregious amount of H2O.
While the other water-wasters named by the Times responded to the article, Poehler, newly minted Water-Wasting Queen of Beverly Hills, has remained mum. Palmer, Mutchnick and Ratner all, personally or through a representative, responded to the Times’ queries. All claimed to have leaks on their property that they plan to fix if they hadn’t been fixed already. Geffen, who used a staggering 1.6 million gallons of water over a two-month span (that’s 27,000 gallons a day) to the tune of $30,000, responded via email to say that he’s in the process of securing permission from the city to drill a private well on his property enabling him to “access the underground river that flows beneath my home instead of water from the city.”
So there’s that. When your net worth is in excess of $6 billion, I suppose a $30,000 water bill is just a drop in the proverbial bucket. Still, that’s a crazy amount of water.
As for Poehler, until she publicly addresses her naughty water-wasting ways, it will remain one of life’s great mysteries: why does a single mother of two need 2,786 gallons of water a day? Gawker has made some guesses — backyard almond farming (1.1 gallon per almond), repeatedly filling up a shark tank (400 gallons), “ripping up Will Arnett’s unsold scripts and flushing each piece individually” (as many as 7 gallons per flush.) But here’s hoping it’s just one big, yet-to-be-detected leak.
That said, please fix this, Amy.

While he was directing, producing and co-writing a little film called Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams still found some time left over to produce Paramount Pictures’ new suspense thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane, an “unofficial” sequel to the 2007 found-footage hit Cloverfield which he also produced.
Described as a mere “blood relative” to Cloverfield, the new film 10 Cloverfield Lane stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher, Jr. The film’s official synopsis only reads, “Monsters come in many forms.” Dan Trachtenberg directs 10 Cloverfield Lane from a screenplay by Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken.
Q: In what aspects is 10 Cloverfield Lane a “blood-relative” to Cloverfield?
J.J. Abrams: Well, there are a number of connections, some obvious, some not. Things that I want people to sort of find on their own. Some are thematic, some are genre. But what defines a Cloverfield movie is part of a kind of bigger idea we had. This is sort of part anthology and part a larger idea. And the fun of having a movie that is connected to Cloverfield, but not a literal Cloverfield 2, which is of course what we would have called it had it been a literal sequel. It would have been a more obviously titled sequel. This is something that hopefully if we get a shot to continue this idea that we have, we can have a lot of fun with and come clearer what constitutes a Cloverfield movie.
Q: Even though this film isn’t shot in found-footage style like Cloverfield, it feels, there’s a lot of moments in it that you get the same POV feeling that Cloverfield had. Is that one of the connections? Is that something that you’re gonna bring on hopefully to other movies?
Abrams: I think that because the premise of this movie is so strong, meaning it is so singular in point of view, I feel like one of the many cool things that Dan did was allowed the audience to vicariously experience moment to moment what Michelle is going through. And part because Mary Elizabeth Winstead is so good. And that is there’s no strategy behind that other than I think Dan telling a story very well.
Q: How did you find Dan Trachtenberg? This is a big movie to give to a first time director.
Abrams: Lindsey Weber who produced 10 Cloverfield Lane with me knew Dan beforehand. When we were searching for the director, she brought him in. What I was mostly impressed by was the clarity and strength of his vision for how he would do this movie. He had a confidence that I think is apparent in the film. A strong sense of tension and focus and he did this really beautiful work with the actors, with the camera, with modulation. I think that the tension of the movie, it’s not just creepy and scary, but there’s a great sense of tension to the movie that I think is really all about what Dan brought to it. So I would credit Lindsey for finding him and credit Dan for what the movie is.
Q: During the making of this film, you were off filming “The Force Awakens.” How involved were you in “10 Cloverfield Lane?”
Abrams: Well, I was involved in the script stage. I was involved in what dailies sending in, notes or suggestions or trying to help whenever I could be of help to Dan and Lindsey who was on set all the time. In post I was like more involved in helping wherever Dan needed it. But again, this was something that really was Dan’s vision and I was just trying to do what a producer does, which is help out.
Q: You are not showing much of the film, marketing-wise. How does that work? Do you have a contract with the studios to have control over the marketing?
Abrams: I can only speak for our experience with Bad Robot and the marketing department, the films we worked on. And what’s been great is there’s a relationship we have the marketing departments that feel like it’s about mutual understanding and respect and strategy. And we get together very early on to discuss how we’re gonna approach what I think it is. Obviously it’s a hugely important thing, how you announce and reveal and hopefully pique interest in a story. And we made a very specific decision early on to not announce this movie a year in advance, six months in advance. We thought let’s break the template and try something new. In an age of people knowing most everything about every stage of the prep, production, post and release of a movie. And the fun of saying here comes a movie. It will be in theaters in two months. Or three months. Not give people much time to conclude to pass judgment on a movie that they could already feel that they know everything about. But rather have some fun with a movie that I think is a fun movie worth having fun with and then surprise the audience.

Following a prolonged period of tranquil weather across the United Kingdom, a change to stormy weather may add to slow travel for the Easter holiday weekend.
The RAC is expecting more than 20 million motorists to travel for the holiday, from Thursday through Monday, in the U.K. With millions of people hitting the roads, rails and airports, travel slowdowns are possible even where the weather cooperates.
Making matters worse, the weather will be unsettled much of the time from Thursday through Monday as a series of storms bring rounds of rain and occasional strong winds.
The first in this series of storms will arrive on Thursday, bringing scattered showers and gusty winds to all of the United Kingdom. Although it will remain dry until the afternoon in South East England.
Travelers on Good Friday will be spared any adverse weather with generally light winds and dry weather throughout the day.
A second storm will cause rainfall to spread into western parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland late Friday afternoon, with the heaviest rain arriving during late Friday night into Saturday.
Travel on Saturday will be hindered by a significant storm that brings downpours and strong winds to the British Isles.
While rainfall totals will generally be 25 mm (1 inch) or less, localized downpours can result in minor flooding and slow travel.
Strong winds over 40 mph (65 km/h) will accompany the band of rain across the U.K., which could cause delays in rail and air travel. Extensive railway engineering work that is set to take place over the holiday will only further add to the rail delays.
Easter Sunday will start off dry for most; however, rain will increase across Wales and England during the afternoon with scattered showers impacting Northern Ireland and Scotland.

A newly discovered species of dinosaur could hold the evolutionary key to why T. rex became so huge and dominant.
The new Tyrannosaur, named Timurlengia, is 90 million years old. It comes from a point in the fossil record just before Tyrannosaurs started to evolve their great size.
Discovered by US and Russia-based scientists working in Uzbekistan, and studied at the University of Edinburgh, the creature’s skull appears to hold some of the secrets to Tyrannosaurs’ success.
Dr Stephen Brusatte from the University of Edinburgh showed the fossil to BBC Science reporter Victoria Gill.

I’ve heard of words to describe poor people who have no class or manners, words to describe rich people who have class and manners, but I’ve not heard of a word to describe people who are rich in terms of wealth but lack manners and class.
Is there a specific word for that? I’m looking to describe a few men in politics who clearly best exemplify this but I don’t have a word to describe them besides “poor in class but filthy rich”

I think the phase you’re really looking for that is commonly used is new money*, which sounds like it’s talking about the wealth itself but actually refers to the person:

You could used the Chinese word for ‘uncouth rich people’ – tuhao.
The “China has a word for its crass new rich” article on CNBC has more explanation of the nuances. For example:

I’m kind of surprised that The Beverly Hillbillies hasn’t been mentioned yet. It comes from an American Sitcom that describes the situation OP asked for almost perfectly. Using it to describe a person or group of people like the OP described is not uncommon.
The phrase white trash could possibly fit your answer – it also applies to lottery winners on welfare.

BAIKONUR, Kazakhstan – Three new crewmembers have joined the International Space Station, including a US grandfather who is poised to enter the record books during his time there, NASA said.
The Russian spacecraft carrying the astronauts docked at 11:09 a.m. yesterday (Philippine time) about 407 kilometers above the Pacific Ocean, off the western coast of Peru, according to the American space agency.
Just over two hours later, crewmates Oleg Skripochka and Alexey Ovchinin of Russia, and Jeff Williams, a grandfather of three and a veteran of long-duration space missions, floated into the orbital outpost after hatches were opened to allow their entry.
“Welcome to @Space_Station! Hatches are opened and the crew onboard grows from three to six members,“ NASA tweeted.
According to NASA, the trio orbited the earth four times in their approximately six-hour journey to the ISS.
“Can’t believe we just left the planet and we’re here already,” said Williams, in a call to friends and family gathered back on Earth, which was broadcast online by NASA TV.
By the end of his half-year trip aboard the ISS, Williams “will become the American with the most cumulative days in space – 534” and the “first American to be a three-time, long-term ISS resident,” NASA said.
The rocket took off in windy conditions from Russia’s space base in Kazakhstan Friday and was decorated with a portrait of the first man in space, Soviet hero Yuri Gagarin, whose pioneering orbital flight was made nearly 55 years ago, on April 12, 1961.

RR Garcia scored 12 big points as he and Josh Urbiztondo knocked down two triples apiece in a hot shooting start. Urbiztondo even beat the quarter buzzer with a long heave from distance, giving his team a 31-17 lead.
